2001 Update (from Japan)

01 September 2001

Hey Everybody!

I guess that firstly I have to apologize for not updating the web site sooner. I have lots of excuses (like I don't have a computer, I've been too busy, I can't get FTP access from work, etc.) but I wouldn't dare use them, for I'm sure you wouldn't believe me!

And I still haven't managed to scan in my photos for the previous edition! Sorry! I'll let you know when they're done.

Well it's been over 7 months since I left Australia! Can you believe it?? Time has absolutely rocketed by, and I have been having a great time here. I've got involved in a church here, which is great. I started rugby training with the Mitsubishi team, and I've been able to travel around and see a bit of Japan too. I've made a bunch of great friends here, and feel very comfortable now! Of course, I did go through a low patch - lower than I could possibly have imagined! But it didn't last too long, and this quickly picked up after that.

The latest news I guess, is that I'm actually in the USA at the moment. (Nowhere near NY or Washington, fortunately.) But seeing as I haven't written for so long, I should tell you about some older stuff too!

After a quick trip back to Aus in early March, I moved into my apartment. I settled in to work and day-to-day Japanese life. Everybody has a holiday in April/May called 'Golden Week', and I spent mine in Okinawa, an almost tropical island way off the south coast of mainland Japan. After this, I decided that I just had to go back to Australia again for University Graduation. This was a great week, but was over all too quickly (of course). I came back to Japan, and have been pretty busy with work since then. At the moment it's 'matsuri' (festival) season in Japan, and we get quite a few holidays. Last week, we had our second (of three) annual 'weeks off', and I visited Lake Biwa. That was very special! And next week, I'm going to climb Mt Fuij, which should be equally amazing. And then next week I'm off to the states.
